Internship Programs
The internship programs are set up to meet the needs of two groups, firstly those that are interested in an educational format in association with a college program, and secondly for those wanting to live and work in a wilderness setting.
College InternshipWe are presently unable to offer this optionThe college program requires the student to establish goals and to be self directed. The school provides the facilities and hands on tuition in wilderness living, herbology and nutrition. There is a fee for this program, which may in part be offset through work exchange. We have strategic alliances with the following schools to establish internship programs. If you are enrolled in any of these schools, or another school in a compatible program, and would like to be considered as an intern at RMS, please contact us.
You are required to visit RMS prior to committing to the program to ensure compatibility and to discuss the needs of your program. We recommend that you plan to visit for at least a weekend. The RMS will work with your college in order to provide any documentation they require for your satisfactory completion of the program. A wide range of skill are used at RMS, these include the following: Small business skills
Homesteading skills

Work Exchange InternshipThis program requires that participants work in exchange for lodging and meals. The work required changes with the day, the seasons and the programs throughout the year and cycles of the school. It mostly consists of helping with the every day farm tasks which include but are not limited to: animal care, watering and weeding of the garden and orchard, helping prepare for classes and visitors, occasional meal preparation (most are provided), working with Peter on building projects and grounds maintenance. Being on the farm also necessitates the need for personal responsibility, self care and clean up, including helping in the kitchen after meals. As a school and organic farm and school, caring for much, we all strive to stay focused on the tasks at hand being the mission and vision of Reevis Mountain School. Positions for work exchange are limited and require an approval process. All possibilities much involve a mutually beneficial exchange. Acceptable applicants will be invited for a one-week trial period. They will be required to sign our standard waiver, asked to show proof of a driver's license and insurance if there is a possibility of driving any RMS vehicles, and will review with Bella and Peter the RMS Handbook. After a one-week time period, if the time has shown to be acceptable and mutually beneficial for all parties involved, a one-month period of exchange will be agreed upon. Exchange time will be reevaluated on a monthly basis and discussed between all parties. If more personal time is required, the participant can make a payment to offset the work missed, at a rate of $10 per hour. An average workday is eight hours, six days a week. We prefer mature, responsible couples or individuals with an attitude of appreciation, assistance and mutual respect. An important aspect of residency is a willingness and ability to share your knowledge in a teaching atmosphere with our young interns. |
Life on the farm
Our daily activities provide opportunities to develop self-reliant skills in all areas of farm life . our organic garden and orchard, natural foods preparation, and day-to-day maintenance of property and equipment, etc. There is also the experience of our sustainable wilderness lifestyle to be enjoyed as well as learning about herbs and natural healing through daily living. We are 'off the grid' but not without electricity; without toilets but with a sensible sanitation system; free of regimented church services but never without awareness of spirit.
Life at RMS is simple yet full, spiritually enriching and practical, challenging and fun, exciting and peaceful. Those with whom you will share this experience maintain a common vision of the awakening of our eternal internal divinity. This happens through our embracing life and its purpose and by allowing our highest expression to come forth consistently in our day-to-day living. It's remembering our source, a nourishing and centering back to the Earth experience. Our true area of 'work' is the shifting from our physical mind orientation to spirit consciousness. Clear communication is vital in this setting, encouraging and supporting one another in honest and open interaction, and providing a grand opportunity for accelerated personal growth.
The guiding principle of our internships states that the time spent together be mutually enriching. Living and working together in close quarters has its joys, demands and challenges.
It is important for you to understand that this is a working farm and Mother Nature never rests. Our small yet dedicated staff shares their knowledge as opportunities present themselves in the course of each day. No two days are alike. Every month and every season is different in terms of planting; harvesting and processing herbs, vegetables, fruit, and nuts; tending to poultry; and, maintenance of the farm, buildings and equipment.
The extent of learning is completely dependent on each individual's motivation and the degree of involvement chosen on any given each day. The absorption of new knowledge is woven into our lives in the process of "learning by doing" rather than rigorous, intellect-based study. Many have commented that the effect of the Reevis experience was not fully appreciated until they returned to their home environments.
Participants receive hot showers and lodging in available space- campsite, cabin or yurpee, and two meals a day. The meals are usually prepared for you but at times may need to be prepared by you. Sharing days in the beautiful, remote wilderness valley is one of life's enriching experiences for most.
STEPS IN THE INTERNSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS
Contact the School about current opportunities.
Interview process. You will be asked some personal and background information in an effort to determine compatibility with RMS, our standards, vision and best suited project possibilities.
Participants in the program agree to abide by specific 'standards' of RMS which include but are not limited to: no use of alcohol, drugs or tobacco while at RMS. - FIREARMS, AMMUNITION, FIREWORKS: Not permitted.
- PETS: Please board your pets elsewhere prior to joining us.
- ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT: We're completely off the grid and have no TV, no telephone, and no generators for conventional electricity. Anything you choose to bring (PC, radio, CD player, etc.) will have to run on power supplied by you (bring lots of batteries!) and at volumes that respect the community's preference for the natural sound stage that surrounds us . so, better bring headphones!
- TELEPHONE & MAIL: The nearest pay phone is 10 miles away in Roosevelt. Expect that your opportunities for access to this phone will be very limited. We pick up mail and telephone messages once or twice a week and you are welcome to receive mail here.
- FOOD: All meals are prepared and served at the community house. Our healthy and healing diet is characterized by whole foods, predominantly organically home-grown, and also includes organic poultry and eggs. Although a vegetarian/dairy free diet can easily be accommodated, some form of poultry, eggs or fish is prepared and served at every meal. Please do not bring any 'junk' food with you. All food must be stored in designated areas - food in yurpees or campground is unsafe as it attracts wild critters (and some are big!)
- LODGING: Varies. You may have your own yurpee, share it dorm-style with members of your gender, or bring your own tent. Lodging has no electricity, water or toilet facilities inside. Yurpees have wood burning stoves for heat when needed.
- MEDICAL SERVICE: We provide natural remedies for nearly all illnesses and injuries at no charge. Outside medical attention will be at your expense. The nearest hospital is about 35 miles and 90 minutes away.
- TRANSPORTATION: We normally do not provide personal shuttle service. If your arrival date coincides with one of our errand trips to Globe or Phoenix, we will attempt to accommodate you in exchange for a shuttle fee. If you plan to drive your own vehicle in, know that it is at your own risk. Four-wheel and high-clearance is necessary (or two good legs.)
